Fast growing and tough enough to thrive on exposed coastal locations, it is ultimately a large tree of broad form that needs lots of space for its root system to develop. It copes well on any soils , even calcareous ones, and its silvery white foliage turns a great yellow in autumn. It can sucker so is not really a garden tree but more ideal to wetland sites within parks and estates.
